Sometimes...

You're asked to do some strange stuff. DabelBrothers, a company I do work for, has asked me to do some redesigns of the 90's Dinosaucers cartoon. So these are the first attempts. Allo the allosaurus...(I won't comment on the complex naming techniques used by the original designers.) I think it was a kids cartoon and they went as simple as possible. I'm trying for a bit more complexity, so we'll see what happens. The first image is his 'Devolved form'
This is his regular anthro form. Im trying to make these as more inline with current ideas. More later this week!

Best,

Brett

  1. Hello Brett, I've been a "silent" Italian fan of your works since Fantastic Four Heroes reborn, and as a dinosaurs lover myself, I really love all your dinosaurs related pictures, they're awesome!
I've wanted to contact you so many times but I was always too shy to do it (and my English knowledge didn't help me at all), because you are one of the artists that inspired me.

I'm a Dinosaucers fan too (maybe THE fan rather than a fan hahaha...) and I always dreamt about new adventures/comics/animated shows about Dinosaucers and knowing you are working on bringing them back from the 80's it's a thrilling feeling.

I like the idea to make them more inline with current ideas, the knowledge we had about dinosaurs back in the 80's was very different than what we have right now.
As a fan, I'd be pretty in favour for new stories and some little design/concept changes, but I'd like it to be faithful to the original show too. After all the fans loved (and still love) Dinosaucers the way it was, and it is considered to be one of the best 80's shows. That show has a strong fanbase today too.

I hope I don't sound disrespectful to your work because my comment wasn't meant to be that way, it's just that ... you + Dinosaucers = I couldn't stay silent anymore/awesome combo

Keep up the good work, I'm eager to see how things will go :)

  2. Hey Aledon,

    Your English is fine:)

Some of the people working on this are big fans so we'll try to keep the feel of the the original... but I have worked on revamps before, He-man and Thundercats. I have learned that while the originals are much beloved, they are really, really bad and do need to be updated, modified, or re-invisioned (the people working the He-man and Thundercats didn't do this, so the series basically failed. Even the fans lost interest because nothing new was done with them.) I'm not a fan of the original series myself, I'm just doing the designs for this one. If this doesn't work out, we might try something with my dinosaur anthro designs (they're on the web somewhere.)

It's just the very beginning stages, the have a meeting with Sony about it today so we'll see what happens!

    Best,

    Brett

  3. Thank you for your reply Brett!
I'm glad to hear the people involved in this are big fans of the original show :)
I really hope the meeting with Sony will be a success!
I truly wish you the best of luck! :)

  4. I grew up on the Dinosaucers. lol. Got the whole series on DVD even, if that says something about my dedication. XD (they are pretty hard to find...)

I have to say I'm intrigued with the thought of modernizing the show. I loved the original, but watching them now (at 28 years of age) just is hard with how corny the lines were and the animation they used back then. heh. That and I have to say...I love your artwork. *oogles*

  5. Minsc,

I completely agree, I loved Thundercats as a kid but when those revamps started happening on the early 2000's (not sure how that should be phrased oughts?) I went back in and looked at Thundercats... it needed help. We pitched a revamp with modified story and added characters, but alas WB wanted a million for it... So they had one of their companies do it and they just continued the cartoon, which was... lame. I even drew one of those series but it just wasn't interesting or good if you don't make some changes to go with the times it will fall flat.

The Triceratops is done I'm working on the Rex and a new character based on Agustinia.

    Best,

    Brett
